Biku Restaurant is unapologetically boisterous and extroverted. Set within a large repurposed Javanese Joglo pavilion the environment reflects the warm hospitality of its owner. The look of this dining establishment is eclectic, vintage and gleefully haphazard. It is thoughtfully unpretentious and feels like a big hug from your favorite Auntie.
Traditional antique Balinese and Javanese furnishings are set up in conversational dining zones. Tall swag curtains suspended from the rafter-beams add a bit of vintage-glamour and softness to the timber structure. The vibrant oversized striped pelmet crowns the bar which is brightly hued with illuminated Javanese cut-glass panels. Biku interiors were intentionally designed as a setting to create lovely memories with family and friends.
The restaurant interior design focused on creating an inviting and lively dining environment within the character of the existing Javanese Joglo pavilion. Thoughtful seating floorplan and space planning were used to establish comfortable conversational dining zones while maintaining the open and welcoming character of the restaurant.
The project included a full approach to the interior detailing, with custom furniture, custom upholstery, vintage-look wood panelling, and custom lighting contributing to the distinctive atmosphere. Traditional Balinese and Javanese furnishings were combined with contemporary elements to create an eclectic hospitality interior with a strong sense of place.
The retail boutique planning was also integrated into the overall environment, allowing the restaurant and retail experience to coexist within the distinctive Joglo setting. Carefully selected furnishings, textiles, decorative elements, and lighting contribute to a cohesive interior that feels residential, personal, and connected to Indonesian cultural traditions.
The design demonstrates Kamala Home’s experience in hospitality interior design and restaurant design in Bali, combining space planning, custom furniture, upholstery, lighting, and culturally inspired interiors. The approach balances the heritage character of the Javanese Joglo with contemporary comfort and functionality for a lively dining destination in Seminyak.
The result is an eclectic restaurant interior in Seminyak, Bali, combining a repurposed Javanese Joglo, antique Balinese and Javanese furnishings, custom-made elements, vintage-inspired detailing, and thoughtfully planned dining zones to create a warm and memorable hospitality environment.
