Spice by Chris Salans is a concept restaurant offering the flavors of the Indonesian archipelago tapas-style, one-bite-at-a-time. The interiors and décor of Spice are eclectic and a feast-for-the-eyes. The visuals are as diverse as the food on the extensive menu and designed to be family friendly focused.
A massive installation of terracotta pots turned upside-down and mounted on the ceiling are converted to glow as pendant light fixtures. The long banquette seating bench rests below a cabinet-of-curiosities filled with Indonesian crafts and artifacts. The bar sparkles with an overhead serpentine stemware rack that beacons guests for a drink. Graphic chevron and wide-striped tile floors activate the space with visual vibration.
The restaurant interior design focused on creating a lively and welcoming environment that complements the casual dining concept while providing a strong visual identity. Thoughtful seating floorplan and space planning were used to create a comfortable arrangement for families, couples, and groups while maintaining a natural flow throughout the restaurant.
Custom furniture, custom upholstery, and custom lighting were integrated into the interior to create a distinctive and playful hospitality environment. The use of terracotta pendant lights, Indonesian crafts and artifacts, bold tile patterns, and bespoke furniture elements brings together contemporary design with references to the cultural character of Indonesia.
The design demonstrates Kamala Home’s experience in hospitality interior design and restaurant design in Bali, combining functional space planning with custom-made furniture, upholstery, lighting, and locally inspired decorative elements. The interior was designed to create a memorable dining experience while reflecting the character and flavors of the Indonesian archipelago.
The result is an eclectic restaurant interior in Sanur, Bali, combining contemporary furnishings, Indonesian crafts, expressive lighting, bold flooring patterns, and carefully planned seating to create a casual yet exuberant dining environment.
